We human beings love secret knowledge. We love the idea that we might have access to inside information and know the *real* truth behind the curtain. We crave a compelling conspiracy theory, even if it’s just for entertainment value.
When it comes to money, it’s no different. Everyone wants the secret sauce. Therefore, we are prone to fall for the false promises of a Ponzi scheme.
Of course, it’s not always that deceptive. Financial seduction could be as simple as a clickable headline on an investment website or a pop-up ad that announces: “Get In on the Next Amazon!” or “5 Ways to Retire by age 35!”.
Getting rich fast seems way better than getting rich slow—or not at all. Saving is not as enjoyable as spending. Our future self doesn’t exist yet, so we satisfy the wants of our present self.
