Memorial Day: A Marker for Remembrance & Reflection

May 31, 2021

The stock market is closed today. For good reason.

It’s Memorial Day. What began as Decoration Day to commemorate the fallen in the Civil War by decorating their graves, over time became a day to remember those who died in all American wars.

Holidays like this are intended to give us more than a day off. They are meant to be a marker of remembrance for us that there are more important things in life than the hustle and bustle of work and the exchange of money.

Life. Family. Friendship. Freedom. Sacrifice.

Use the few minutes you may have taken today to check your portfolio or flip on CNBC or look at your phone to see how the DOW did to pause in sobriety and with thankfulness.

No matter how hard you worked for what you have, the prosperity you enjoy (of whatever measure) did not come from you alone. We all stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before us. Let’s consider their legacy, and, as we say at Johnson Wealth Management, reflect on the legacy we are living and one day will leave.
